說 明:A database containing dates and places of departure and arrival in Asia of ships of the Dutch East India Company and its predecessors in the period before 1680 was composed by Menno Leenstra, a Dutch historian. Initially the database was set up on behalf of Dr. Robert Parthesius, the historian working for the Batavia-project. This project was set up in the 1980’s to build a replica of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) returnship Batavia. At that moment a large database was available of the voyages of ships of this Company between Europe and Asia and back [De Bruijn et.al. – Dutch Asiatic Shipping]. Data on the voyages within Asia however were concealed in the large number of VOC-documents in the Dutch National Archive. On the basis of published and unpublished data a database of 57.000 voyages by nearly 1800 vessels was constructed. Robert Parthesius analysed in his thesis [with the title cited above] of 2007 the use of different ship types in the Asian network of the Company up to 1660. The database is now also part of a more extensive research program about the development of historic trade routes in the Indian Ocean initiated by New York University Abu Dhabi and Leiden University. The current database is foreseen to be accessible on line in the academic year 2018-2019.
